Newsletter #5 - Spring fever, a new collection, and a new me
Before I could write this newsletter, I first had to clear my head and jot down a few key points about the past four weeks to bring some structure to everything. Because things have really been hectic.
The closing event of our group exhibition was a wonderful surprise for me – I'll explain exactly why in this blog post.
Right after that, I immediately started preparing for ARTMUC in May. I've documented everything involved in exhibiting at an art fair (and how I'm participating for the first time) here.
And all of this is happening during a period of self-discovery and change. Between painting and fair preparations, a special photoshoot was my highlight of the last month. As an artist, it's essential to present myself regularly. And when you realize you've evolved, your photos also need an update – for your website, brochures, and Instagram. Together with Claire Nungesser, I've developed a "new" style that actually feels more like a return: closer to the image I've had of myself for some time now. Carolin Zenker captured this in a brand identity shoot. I'm looking forward to sharing more of it soon.
In the midst of this transformation, the idea for my first small collection of original artworks emerged—quietly, in fact. Until now, I've always worked on individual pieces, but they weren't part of a collection. Triggered by a few inspiring photos in a Scandinavian interior design magazine, I suddenly had a feeling that I wanted to evoke with this series of images. That's often how it works for me; I see something that isn't directly related to painting. Interesting color combinations, textures, or spaces—all of these can inspire me.
Now this small collection is taking shape. Piece by piece, or rather, image by image. I hope to be able to show more soon, but the cover image of this newsletter already offers a little hint to give you an idea of the direction things are heading.
And photography wasn't neglected either: it was a wonderful accompaniment to my first springtime walks through the city. A few of these pictures have already made it into my JUNIQE photography shop… and perhaps more will follow, because photography and consciously enjoying this season is on my to-do list for the coming weeks, alongside all the other things I've already mentioned :)
Best regards and hopefully see you soon! Mareike
